  7 Days in Panama

Day 1

On the first day of this travel itinerary, spend the day exploring Panama City. Visit Casco Viejo, the historic old town and wander around the old colonial cathedrals and squares. Enjoy lunch in one of the cosy cafes and then head down to the bay to admire the impressive skyline of skyscrapers. Walk back towards the city centre on the coastal road stopping for some ceviche at the fish market. Take a bus or cab to the far eastern edge of the city to see the remains of Old Panama – Panama Vieja – that was destroyed by the Welshman Henry Morgan in 1671.

Day 2

Today you are going to visit the world-famous Panama Canal. You can either take a cab or local bus to Miraflores Locks just outside the city. It’s impressive to see the scale of the locks and if you go in the morning or early evening you might catch a huge liner going through. There’s a museum as well giving you plenty of information on the Canal’s construction and economic importance. If you have time head further along the road to the Summit Botanical Gardens and Zoo or the Panama Rainforest Discovery Centre.

Days 3 and 4

Organise a trip or hire a car to take you to the stunning tropical sand islands of San Blas. Here you can sail around the islands, meeting the local Kuna people and snorkel in the pristine blue water before returning to Panama City on the evening of Day Four.

Day 5

On the fifth day of the travel itinerary take an early morning bus to David (7-8 hours) take a short break to explore the second-largest city in Panama and have a cup of coffee before hopping on a one hour bus to Boquete, a small mountain town, where you can see where the coffee you just drank is grown. Spend the night here.

Day 6

Today take the morning slowly and visit a coffee plantation or if you’re more adventurous, try some white-water rafting or a zip-line canopy tour. Arrange some transport to take you to Almirate, the entry point for Bocas del Torro in the afternoon. Here you can choose a water taxi to take you to the island you wish to stay at. Maybe the busy main hub of Bocas Town on Isla Colon or a more tranquil setting on Isla Solarte or Isla Bastimentos.

Day 7

Today is the final day of this travel itinerary and you can truly relax either on a snorkelling trip or just chilling out on one of the white sand beaches with a cocktail.
